Police in Samut Prakan has arrested six men from Myanmar following a public brawl at a department store in the Muang district of Samut Prakan on Sunday.
The arrests were announced by Samrong Nua Police Chief, Pol Col Arthit Simcharoen, who named the victim as 19-year-old Muang Tho Phe, also from Myanmar.
The teenage migrant worker was attacked and stabbed by his six compatriots near the Imperial World Samrong department store entrance.
The attack proved fatal when the young man later passed away due to the severity of his wounds.
Police learned the attack was carried out by six Myanmar nationals who fled the scene before officials arrived on Sunday evening.
In cooperation with immigration police, an investigation led to the arrest of one of the men later on Sunday night. The arrested man provided information to the police, leading to the remaining five men being arrested on Monday.
All six men were detained at Samrong Nua police station for questioning. They are aged between 20 and 29 years old.
During interrogation, police learned that the group was visiting the department store on Sunday when they encountered another migrant group from Myanmar.
The two groups engaged in verbal abuse leading to a fight. One of the arrested men, 20-year-old Win Thun Aung, produced a knife and stabbed the victim.
All six will face charges of bodily assault, causing death and carrying a weapon in public.
