A 49-year-old man who posed as a doctor and stole from seniors in the Kamalasai District of Kalasin Province has been arrested by police.
The accused had worked as a buyer of wood from deteriorating homes and claimed that the coronavirus pandemic affected his source of income.
To make money, he decided to con elderly citizens in the area by posing as a doctor from the health department.
The man would use the premise of being a doctor to enter the homes of the victims, taking the opportunity to steal from them once inside.
Upon arrest, further details of his crimes were told. In one case, he suggested that a 77-year-old woman take a shower before searching the home and escaping on a motorbike with 20,000 baht, a gold necklace, and a mobile phone.
The man was charged with petty theft, false impersonation of a health official, and other charges relating to the emergency decree.
