More than 50 percent of a group of 80 Thai citizens who returned from Indonesia after attending a religious ceremony has tested positive for coronavirus.
The group returned to Thailand from Indonesia on Monday and was screened as per immigration protocol. It was then discovered that 42 of the 80 people had covid-19.
The infected people were mostly from southern provinces including Songkhla, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and Saturn. It was believed they were attending a large Muslim gathering in East Java.
The 42 positive cases were counted in the 111 new cases announced today, Wednesday, April 8th.
All members of the flight’s cabin crew, in addition to those who tested negative for coronavirus, have been ordered to self-isolate for 14 days as a precaution.
The incident follows a similar event in February when many Thai people became infected after attending a religious ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
