The Thai Government’s Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration today announced three new virus infections, taking the total up to 2,992. There were no additional deaths announced.
Of the three new cases, two were from recent returnees on repatriation flights. The two Thai men, aged 46 and 51, had arrived on a flight from Kazakhstan on Saturday and were already in a quarantine facility.
The other case was a 59-year-old woman in Yala who had been in close contact with a known infected patient while in Malaysia. Her infection was discovered via preemptive testing and did not display any symptoms of the virus.
The case shows how active testing may reveal that the true numbers of coronavirus-positive people in Thailand could be much higher than the official numbers suggest. Thailand’s testing rates are among the lowest in the world.
Meanwhile, five provinces have been added to the list of virus-free regions over the past 28 days. Chiang Mai, Chaiyaphum, Lampang, Phitsanulok, and Trang take the total number of provinces with a new covid-19 case in the last 28 days up to 39.
There are still nine provinces that haven’t recorded a single case of covid-19: Ang Thong, Bung Kan, Chai Nat, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Singburi, and Trat.
11 new recoveries were also announced today taking the total number of recovered patients to 2,772.
