Rumors are flying around Asian media that North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un is either dead, brain dead, or perfectly fine.
The infamous dictator, nicknamed “Rocket Man” by US President Donald Trump, underwent a stent surgery earlier this month, sparking the speculation that things did not go as planned.
Sources in Hong Kong claim they have a “very reliable source” who informed them that Kim passed away during surgery.
Another unconfirmed source in Beijing, a close ally of North Korea, claims that the “Dear Leader” passed away when the surgeon who performed his operation botched it due to shaking hands from fear.
Japanese media, meanwhile, claim that Kim is in a “vegetative state” and could have severe brain damage.
However, the media in North Korea is acting as if everything is fine, as is President Trump who earlier this week said that he had “no reason to conclude Kim is seriously ill”.
Yet, China dispatched a medical team to North Korea stoking the flames of media speculation, with one Chinese medic informing a Japanese magazine that Kim “clutched his chest and fell to the ground earlier this month.”
If Kim Jong Un is dead, we will likely need to wait for official verification from North Korean state media that has a history of delaying such information – they waited four days before announcing the death of Kim’s father and grandfather.
Until then, speculation will continue to swirl with one North Korean specialist even theorizing that his death could be from the coronavirus due to his underlying medical condition such as obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
