A British woman who had been stranded in Chiang Mai airport for approximately one week has given free accommodation at a local guest house after a video of her crying went viral on social media.
The woman had been living and sleeping at the airport since her flight home was canceled and had run out of money to pay for accommodation or food.
Airport staff had been giving the woman free food and support and said that she was happy to stay in the terminal because she felt safe there.
However, after one member of staff saw the woman crying, he suspected she just wanted to get back to her own country and put a video of the lonely woman in the empty airport on social media.
The video caught the attention of the Chiang Mai Governor who ordered the Airport Director to fix the situation.
He found free accommodation for the woman in a guest house. She was transported there by airport staff and will stay free of charge until she can get home.
Reports suggest the woman is a digital nomad who was unable to receive money from her employer due to the coronavirus situation.
