Two of the five prisoners who escaped from Sawang Daen Din Prison on Friday have now been recaptured following a manhunt over the weekend.
The inmates, who escaped after being placed in a room together as part of the prison’s covid-19 quarantining procedure, tied canvas sheets and used them to climb over the prison walls after breaking through the ceiling.
One of the men was imprisoned for destroying property, while the other four were there on drug possession charges.
Of the captured inmates, one was caught following information provided to local police by the escapees’ mother. He was found in a house only two kilometers from the police station in Kham Ta Kla district.
The second inmate was arrested after he handed himself in to police at the same station after relatives had contacted the authorities to check on his safety.
The three remaining escapees are still on the run with police checkpoints set up in the area in an attempt to recapture them.
