Watchdog Thailand has announced that a woman who was filmed abusing a puppy has been prosecuted for animal cruelty and found guilty by the Chonburi Provincial Court.
The woman was the subject of a viral video that has been circulating on social media this week.
In the video, she can be seen picking up a heavy sack of fertilizer and slamming it onto an eight-month-old pitbull puppy. Afterward, she hits the puppy’s face with shoes.
The video also shows another person pushing the dog’s head into a bowl of water while whimpering is heard as the dog tries to escape out of fear.
A spokesperson from Watchdog Thailand said:
“She said she was trying to discipline the puppy, but it’s over the line so it’s animal abuse. If a psychologist examined her, they would find that she is emotionally unstable. We asked the police and the prosecutor to [pursue the matter] to the full extent of the law.”
The Chonburi Provincial Court handed the woman a 10,000 baht fine and a six-month jail sentence. However, the prison term has been suspended as the woman confessed to the crime.
Instead, she will need to complete 24 hours of community service and will remain on parole for one year.
The dog is now under the care of Watchdog Thailand and will be cared for in a dog shelter in Chonburi province.
Watchdog Thailand promised that they would pursue legal action against the other person in the video who slammed the puppy’s head into the water bowl.
