Police in Pattaya arrested 12 young Thai nationals after following a black Hyundai that broke through a night curfew checkpoint around midnight last night.
The incident began shortly after the 11 pm night curfew came into effect at a police checkpoint in Bang Lamung district. A car refused to stop for the police at the checkpoint prompting officers to follow the vehicle.
Officials caught up with the Hyundai at a North Pattaya intersection and discovered four young Thai nationals – two males and two females – inside the vehicle.
The youngsters, all under 20 years old, told police that one of them had suffered an injury and was being brought to the hospital, hence why they were in a rush and didn’t stop for the police checkpoint.
Police brought the individual who was apparently injured to the hospital for evaluation while escorting the other three to the local police station.
However, while the three were in custody, a separate raid discovered eight young Thais at a rented villa in a housing estate on Sukhumvit Road. The group was friends with the four who had run the checkpoint.
When police raided the villa they discovered drugs including ketamine. All 12 people – eight from the villa and four from the car – were arrested and now face punishment for violating the emergency decree.
In addition to breaking the curfew, the young Thais will also be charged with drug possession.
