A 40-year-old Thai woman was arrested in Samut Songkhram province on Monday on allegations of acquiring underage girls for the sex trade in Ratchaburi province for more than ten years.
The woman, named by police as Sasirat Wongkaew, was taken into custody at her home in the Amphawa District of Samut Songkhram province following the issuing of an arrest warrant.
Superintendent of Human Trafficking Suppression Division 5, Pol Col Apisant Chairat, made the announcement of her arrest on Tuesday.
He said that an arrest warrant was issued by the Criminal Court on June 15th for the 40-year-old as part of a crackdown on procurers for the sex trade.
Police from the trafficking suppression division launched a crackdown on the trade across Ratchaburi and Kanchanaburi provinces between June 9th and June 11th.
Pol Col Chairat said that six people had been arrested from the initial crackdown, which led to the eventual arrest of Ms. Wongkaew.
According to the allegations, the 40-year-old had been grooming and trafficking girls under the age of 15 to provide sex for customers in Ratchaburi over the past ten years.
Under initial interrogation, the arrested woman admitted to the charges against her but did not implicate any other people involved.
She will remain in custody at Police Division 5 while the investigation continues.
