The new case was a repatriated Thai male student who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia. The 26-year-old had entered Thailand via the Padang Besar checkpoint after his flight landed in Malaysia.
He crossed the checkpoint on Monday by bus and was placed in state quarantine in Narathiwat province, initially testing negative for the virus.
However, a second test three days after his arrival showed he was, in fact, infected with the coronavirus.
Officials have stated that they will retest all 39 other returnees who traveled on the same bus as the patient.
There were no new deaths reported today, keeping the death toll at 57.
16 more patients have been released from hospitals taking the total number of recoveries up to 2,961. Only 59 people remain in hospitals with the virus.
