
A further 104 new cases of coronavirus, including 3 deaths, were announced by the Thai Government today, Thursday, April 2nd.
The figures represent a drop in new cases in comparison to yesterday. However, the total number of infections continued to climb towards a 2,000 milestone, now reaching 1,875 total cases.
The three deaths were a 57-year-old Thai man who had returned from Pakistan and died on a train from Bangkok to Sungai Kolok, a 77-year-old Thai man with existing medical conditions, and a 55-year-old Thai man who worked as a public transport driver.
Of the new cases, 11 had returned from other countries leading to an announcement from Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, that Thailand would close its borders for 2 weeks.
Bangkok, which has closed all shops from midnight to 5 am, has the highest number of new cases with 30. Phuket has 11 new infections, while Samut Prakan has 9.
Further restrictions are being implemented around the country including a fine for not wearing a face mask in Samut Sakhon,
