The Deputy Inspector in charge of investigation at Wang Thonglang police station in Bangkok, Pol Col Songklod Boonsong, has been formally charged with the murder of his wife.

Pakkapong Pongpetra, Commander at the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), announced the charge today following an investigation. However, the exact charge – whether premeditated murder or not – is yet to be decided.

Pol Col Boonsong denied the charges against him and stuck to his original story that his wife had accidentally shot herself during an argument.

According to the accused, he and his wife were arguing when his .45 pistol accidentally fired as she was trying to grab it. The shot was fatal.

The incident happened on Saturday when Pol Col Boonsong’s wife, Pimchadaporn, was found dead on a sofa of the first floor of their home at Saena Villa 88 in the Bangkapi district of Bangkok.

Police were alerted and discovered a gunshot wound on the left side of the 30-year-old woman’s head upon arrival.
Pol Col Boonsong was at the scene when the police arrived and informed them that his wife has accidentally shot herself, and he moved the gun upstairs to the second floor for safekeeping after the incident.

However, doubts emerged almost immediately about how Pimchadaporn could have shot herself. Relatives, including her mother and elder brother, said she was right-handed and couldn’t possibly have shot herself on the left side of her head. Her mother said:

“My daughter was right-handed, but the shot to her head was on her left.”

Her brother also maintained that she would not have shot herself. He said she had been selling clothes on Facebook shortly before the incident happened and did not know anything about guns.

The evidence against Pol Col Boonsong was strong enough to counter his claims that she committed suicide, and he will now be charged with her murder.
