Three more immigration officers who work at the Sadao checkpoint in Songkhla province have tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total number of infected staff up to five.
Two immigration officers who work at the checkpoint were found to have the virus earlier this week leading to the closure of the border crossing for disinfection.
It has now been discovered that a further three officers have contracted the virus while 42 others have been placed in quarantine at a hotel and 27 more in isolation at home.
The cause of the virus is believed to have been from a Malaysian national who was undergoing the repatriation process.
Due to the situation, the border at Sadao will remain closed for immigration processing for at least seven days, but due to the majority of staff being in quarantine or isolation for 14 days, it is likely the checkpoint will be closed for longer.
Vehicles for freight deliveries can still pass through the checkpoint.
