The Governor of Phuket has signed a new order that makes it compulsory to wear a face mask when outdoors anywhere in the province.
The order states that anyone who violates the rules and goes outside without wearing a face mask will be fined up to 20,000 baht.
In addition, the order mentions that people should not “do any activity that may lead to the spread of the virus.” Exactly what is meant by “any activity” remains to be seen, but it is assumed it refers to earlier orders about gatherings of people and using closed facilities such as the beach.
A rooftop party involving several foreigners and Thai ladies was already shut down with fines handed out to all people involved.
Phuket has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases in Thailand according to the latest reports with 135 confirmed infections.
