Immigration Police have announced the arrest of two Singaporean men and two Thai women in Chiang Mai for an illegal gambling website’s alleged operation.
On Wednesday, July 15th, the arrests were made following a search warrant issued by the Chiang Mai provincial court.
Immigration Police Region 5 released the names of those arrested as Singaporeans Anthony and Chay (last names withheld), and Thai nationals Natpaphas and Piyaporn. The bust was made at a house in the Saraphee district.
The search warrant was issued following local residents’ complaints of an illegal gambling operation taking place at the house in question.
Upon arriving at the scene, officials discovered the four suspects using laptops and mobile phones to run an online gambling website and contact customers.
All electronic items at the scene were confiscated as evidence.
An initial investigation has traced the website’s financing to a Malaysian businessman who hired Thai models, or “pretties,” to entice customers onto the platform by hosting live events on the gambling website.
An investigation to track the owner and potential money laundering is continuing.
