One man has died and another has been seriously injured in military custody after they were taken away by soldiers claiming to be from the Border Drug Prevention and Suppression Center for the Upper Northeast of Thailand.
The two brothers were taken at approximately 8.30 pm from their cottage in the That Phanom district of Nakhon Phanom province.
Later that evening, the men’s parents received a phone call from the phone of the eldest brother asking them to go to That Phanom Crown Prince Hospital.
Upon arrival, they discovered that their eldest son had died. Stricken with worry and grief they hurried to file a complaint with the local police and then proceeded to a military operations center at a nearby temple where their sons had been taken.
There, they discovered their younger son who was badly injured. They took him to the hospital and found out he had severe bruising all over his body and two broken ribs.
They launched an official complaint with the police who are now preparing legal action on behalf of the parents. The police have said it will take a week to prepare the case.
They have also promised to ensure justice for all parties concerned without bias.
