All stores and street vendors in Bangkok must close between midnight and 5 am starting immediately.
The announcement was made by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Wednesday, April 1st shortly after they had previously said that rumors of a lockdown in the capital are untrue.
The new restrictions are designed to keep people at home amid the increasing numbers of coronavirus cases in the capital.
Bangkok Governor, Aswin Kwanmuang, said:
“All shops must be closed from midnight. That includes roadside shops. They can reopen at 5 am,”
Officials across the city will be on the lookout during these hours for any shops or sellers who remain operational.
