Park officials in several city parks across Bangkok have reported that as many as 80 percent of people are ignoring the rules in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Parks reopened on May 3rd, along with a selection of small businesses, allowing people to conduct outdoor activities again such as jogging and non-contact sports.
However, a large majority of people are not abiding by the rules and participating in group exercises, using the public exercise equipment which is still out of bounds, not wearing face masks, and not keeping a safe physical distance.
According to city clerk, Silapasuai Rawisaengsun, some park officials have even complained of people ignoring their warnings. She said that parkgoers simply enter the prohibited exercise areas.
She continued by saying that if people continue to ignore the rules while going to the park that they will simply be asked to leave.
She also warned that with such a high percentage of people ignoring the rules, officials may have to close the parks again.
