
A poll conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) has shown that a significant majority of people want entertainment venues to remain closed for now.
The survey, conducted on June 8th and 9th, had 1,270 respondents over the age of 15, spread across varying levels of education, income, and occupations.
The topic of the survey related to the fourth phase of easing lockdown restrictions in Thailand, due to begin on Monday, June 15th.
Participants were asked which venues and businesses should reopen during the next stage of easing restrictions. Each participant was allowed to choose more than one answer.
The most popular answers were:
- Schools and educational buildings – 82.28 percent
- Scientific centers for educational purposes – 80.94 percent
- National and botanic parks – 78.35 percent
- Beaches and other coastal areas – 70.24 percent
- Gyms, fitness centers, and sports stadiums – 69.29 percent
Next, participants were asked to choose venues and businesses that should not be allowed to reopen yet. Again, they could select more than one answer.
The most popular answers were:
- Bars, pubs, karaoke, and other entertainment venues – 82.20 percent
- Massage parlors – 78.74 percent
- Exhibition halls, concerts, and musical performances over 20,000 square meters – 75.59 percent
- Water parks, children’s play areas, and arcades – 70.88 percent
- Gatherings of more than 200 people – 65.83 percent
The survey also asked participants if they were concerned about becoming infected with covid-19. 52.76 percent of people said no.
Of those, 32.83 percent said they were no longer afraid of coronavirus due to the low number of cases reported in Thailand. A further 19.93 percent of people said they were not scared of covid-19 as they believe the virus will disappear from the country.
Of the respondents who said they remain concerned about covid-19, 33.39 percent said that people were not paying attention to protecting themselves properly anymore.
A further 12.91 percent said they would remain concerned about the virus until a vaccine has been developed.
0.94 percent of participants did not answer or were not interested in covid-19.
