The Thai Government has announced that four different categories of people will be eligible for free coronavirus testing starting immediately.
The announcement was made by Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, and states that anyone who fits into the four categories below will be eligible for free covid-19 testing.
The four categories are:
- People who have traveled to another country and show signs of coronavirus including breathing difficulties, a runny nose, sore throat, coughing, or high temperature.
- Patients in medical facilities, people whose job involves public contact, and people who have been in contact with a person who has tested positive for the virus. Anyone from this category who displays symptoms such as a high temperature or breathing difficulties can receive a free covid-19 test.
- Medical staff who have come into contact with an infected patient and display any symptoms of the virus.
- People who have been involved in cluster groups cases and display symptoms such as breathing difficulties, but have tested negative for the flu.
While these steps will help to gain more accurate data about the coronavirus numbers in Thailand, there still remain issues with hospitals overcharging patients who do test positive for the virus.
The announcement follows news of a mobile covid-19 unit operating in Bangkok.
