The United States has officially surpassed both China and Italy as the country with the highest number of coronavirus (covid-19) cases according to Johns Hopkins University.
At the time of writing, the United States has recorded 85,653 virus cases in comparison to 81,782 in China and 80,589 in Italy.
American President, Donald Trump, was informed about the news while holding a press conference at the White House. He immediately moved to question the statistics and praise the testing taking place in the US.
He told reporters gathered at the press conference:
“It’s a tribute to the amount of testing that we’re doing. We’re doing tremendous testing, and I’m sure you’re not able to tell what China is testing or not testing. I think that’s a little hard.”
The death toll in the United States has also surpassed 1,000 people and unemployment has skyrocketed with an astonishing 3.3 million people filing for unemployment last week on a day of bad news for the country.
The total number of confirmed virus cases worldwide currently stands at 531,860m while the number of recovered patients stands at 122.203 globally.
