The Governor of Phuket, Phakkaphone Thawiphat, has just announced that air transport will be added to other shutdown measures on the southern Thai island.
It was previously announced that Phuket would enter a lockdown until April 30th.
The initial announcement included details about land transport and ships entering or exiting the island to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
However, now the Governor has included air transport in the shutdown. Due to laws and regulations according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), the shut down will not come into effect until April 10th.
This is due to a rule stating that the CAAT must be notified at least 7 days in advance for such drastic measures.
The move completes a series of announcements made by the Phuket Governor over the past few days, including a nighttime curfew for all residents on the island.
