Three people, whose nationalities have not been released, have been arrested after they were caught swimming on a beach in the Pattaya area today.
The three people, two women, and a man were found on a beach at the back of a hotel in the Pratumnak area at around noon today. They had been swimming in the sea which is currently off-limits in Chonburi province.
Pattaya police say they had given the trio several “soft warnings” to come out of the water and off the beach, but the suspects refused to listen and continued to swim.
Due to swimmers not listening to the warnings, the police say they had no choice but to arrest all three people and bring them to the police station to be charged.
The punishment for violating the order to remain off the beaches in Chonburi is a fine up to 100,000 baht and/or one year in prison. There are signs placed along the beaches of Pattaya and Chonburi clearly stating the punishment in several languages.
The incident follows another arrest of an elderly French man who was on a beach in Pattaya and claims he was extorted by police who withheld his passport.
