Police have announced the discovery of a decaying body belonging to a Ukrainian woman in a forested area near a local road on the southern island of Koh Samui.
The body was discovered by a local resident who was in the scrub, trying to find mushrooms when he noticed a human leg in a nearby ditch.
The terrified man immediately went home to inform his wife about the discovery. They both went together to take a closer look on Sunday.
Upon closer inspection, they found the leg belonged to the decaying body of the deceased woman. They quickly informed the local police who found a backpack, medicine, a phone charger, and 700 baht cash near the body.
The woman’s body was identified as Olha Frolova, a 32-year-old Ukrainian national who had been reported missing by her husband, 40-year-old Dimas Frolova, also from Ukraine.
Mr. Frolova told police that his wife had been missing since May 25th and that they had both been living on Koh Samui with their son for around five years.
However, Mrs. Frolova had met another man and left her husband two months ago to live with her new partner. She had taken their son with her and prepared documents to file for a divorce.
Over the past two months, she had visited her husband on several occasions with their son. On May 25th left the young boy in the care of her husband, saying she would return later to collect him.
When she didn’t return, Mr. Frolova filed a missing person report with police at Bo Phut station.
Police are investigating the death and will speak with people who knew her on Koh Samui. They will also check surveillance footage from security cameras.
The Ukrainian Embassy was informed about the death. Mrs. Frolova’s body is now at Koh Samui hospital for examination.
