The Royal Thai Armed Forces held an event in coordination with the Thai Red Cross Society in an attempt to publicize the current lack of blood donations across Thailand.
Due to the current state of emergency enforced by the coronavirus pandemic, blood donations have dropped significantly leading to a low national supply.
To raise awareness of the situation, the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Pornpipat Benyasri, led numerous high-ranking officials, chiefs, and personnel from the Royal Armed Forces to donate their blood at the Royal Thai Armed Forces Club on Chaengwattana Road in Bangkok.
The Thai Red Cross Society sets a daily target of 2,500 units of blood. However, they are only receiving around 1,000 units of blood per day at the moment.
The main reason for this is that people do not want to leave their homes due to the covid-19 situation in addition to mobile blood donation events being canceled.
However, blood donation buses operated by the Thai Red Cross Society are now in operation across Bangkok. They will visit the premises of private companies and shops to receive donations from the public.
Any organization with 50 or more persons willing to donate blood can contact the Thai Red Cross Society on 02-256-4300 to arrange on-site donations.
