The Phuket Governor has signed a request to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) requesting that Phuket airport remain closed until May 15th.
The airport has been shut since the beginning of April due to the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown implemented across the southern island.
In addition, land and sea border has been closed for weeks, cutting Phuket off from the rest of Thailand while they try to control the covid-19 situation on the popular tourist island.
The governor has just signed an order that will undo the sub-district lockdown currently in place across Phuket and allow people to move around again.
However, he is wary about opening the airport again when domestic travel resumes in case people from other areas bring new infections with them to Phuket.
There was, however, no mention of keeping land and sea borders closed in the request.
