The rise in coronavirus cases across the province of Chonburi means that a full lockdown in the popular city of Pattaya is being considered.
The Mayor of Pattaya, Sonthaya Khunluem, said that a complete ban on all arrivals and departures from the resort city could be an effective measure to control the spread of covid-19.
Pattaya has already banned people from the beaches and closed hotels in accordance with an order from the Chonburi Governor.
The mayor said that checkpoints would be set up along all roads leading into and out of Pattaya with anyone who is not a resident being refused entry.
Chonburi has the fifth-highest number of virus infections in Thailand with 54 confirmed cases according to the latest figures.
Of the cases in Chonburi, 25 are within the boundaries of Pattaya, most of them foreigners.
