Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in Nonthaburi for stealing more than 100 pairs of flip-flops with an utterly bizarre and revolting reason for doing so.
Lt Col Thansakorn Kongthong of Bang Sri Muang Police Station announced that Teerapat Klaiya was due in court following an arrest where officials discovered 126 pairs of stolen flip-flops at his home in Nonthaburi.
The suspect would steal the sandals, wear them in his home, touch and caress them, and even “make love” to them.
The arrest followed a security camera recording Mr. Klaiya stealing a pair of flip-flops in the area, leading police to investigate the man’s home where they discovered the haul.
Apparently, this isn’t his first offense related to footwear as Lt Col Kongthong explained the man has a long history and love for various all things that go on feet.
However, upon arrest, a somewhat tragic story emerged as Mr. Klaiya informed police of incidents during his childhood when his parents would hurl shoes at him as a young boy.
He claims these incidents led to a fetish for feet with the robbery of people’s footwear beginning when he was only 13 years old.
Police have charged the man with robbery and violating the emergency decree as he was out during curfew hours.
