Ao Nang police have discovered the naked deceased body of an unidentified foreign man drifting off the coast of Koh Poda in Krabi province.
The police were alerted to a dead body floating in the sea by officials from the Nopparat Tara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park on Tuesday morning and went to investigate.
Police, rescue workers, and medical personnel from Krabi Hospital headed out to sea to rescue the body. Upon reaching the scene they discovered a naked foreign man aged between 30 and 40 with a shaved head.
They believe the man died between three and five days previous as it was omitting a foul odor and had begun to decompose.
The man, who was approximately 180 cm tall, had flower tattoos on his left arm and a silver earring in in his left ear which police hope will help to identify him.
There were no signs of foul play and no bruises present on the body. This has led officials to speculate that the man may have decided to go swimming naked at a nearby province and been swept towards Krabi in a storm.
Water currents from Phang Nga and Phuket both move in the direction of Krabi so it is possible the man had initially gone swimming in one of those areas.
The man’s body was sent for an examination to determine the cause of death while officials seek to contact any friends or relatives of the man.
Anyone with information about the man or who may know more about the incident can contact the local police on 075-611400.
