Workers from Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar who cannot leave Thailand due to border closures will be allowed to continue their employment beyond the expiration of their work permits.
The Labour Ministry made the announcement on Wednesday, April 1st, to ease the concerns of some 108,586 migrant workers from bordering countries.
Many of the workers are employed via border passes and a memorandum of understanding between Thailand and the affected countries which allow workers to gain employment for 4 years.
The remaining people affected by this decision are the migrant workers who are employed in border areas of the country on a daily or seasonal basis.
The announcement follows news that visitors who entered Thailand on a tourist visa after March 1st will be granted an automatic extension of stay.
