Five prison inmates have escaped from Sawang Daen Din Prison in Sakon Nakhon province after they were moved to a quarantine room as part of the covid-19 procedure in the facility.
The escape occurred on Friday morning, May 1st, shortly after five men were moved into the same room to be isolated from other prisoners in the building due to coronavirus fears.
After being placed in the room, the men escaped through the ceiling, crawling through tight vents before feeling the prison.
In a scenario representing something you would witness in a Hollywood movie, the guards later unraveled the cunning plan after noticing the men had escaped.
The five prisoners had created a rope from canvas sheets in the room, knotting several sheets together and using it to climb over the prison walls before running free.
One of the men was imprisoned for destroying property, while the other four were there on drug possession charges.
A manhunt has been launched by local authorities for the five men, but for now, they remain on the run.
The escape follows a prison riot in the northeastern province of Buriram last month when 100 prisoners temporarily fled the facility.
