An incredible incident occurred at Chaophraya Yommarat Hospital in Suphan Buri yesterday when an ambulance loading a patient exploded out of the blue.
The ambulance was parked in front of the Heart Disease building when the incident occurred. Medical staff is seen loading a patient into the vehicle just as the explosion happened.
The patient, who was on a stretcher, was inches away from the ambulance when it bursts into flames. If the incident had happened just seconds later, it might have resulted in many injuries.
Luckily, the timing of the explosion meant that nobody was injured. However, medical staff and patients are seen running from the scene in a panic for their lives.
Shortly after the explosion, officials arrived on the scene and discovered flames engulfing the ambulance. A local rescue team worked with the police to douse the fire and extinguish it quickly.
Around 15 minutes after the explosion, the fire had been put out, and the area secured.
As expected, many of the medical staff and patients in the vicinity were in a severe state of shock. A hospital was among the last places one would expect to bear witness to such an event.
A preliminary investigation had revealed that the ambulance driver had refilled the oxygen tank shortly before the incident occurred. After filling the container, he drove to the hospital to collect the patient.
Police suspect that an overfilled oxygen tank may have been the cause of the explosion, but the investigation is still taking place.
