A bomb scare that occurred outside the United States Embassy in the Lumpini area of Bangkok today has turned out to be a false alarm.
The drama unfolded on Tuesday morning after police in Lumpini were alerted to a suspicious-looking man who had placed a box in front of the US Embassy on Witthayu Road.
Police quickly arrived on the scene with a bomb disposal unit to inspect the item with caution.
However, after inspection, it turned out the box contained only a Muay Thai doll, some papers, clothing, and some medicine. There were also some batteries and a bottle found near the box.

Police located the man, who turned out to be a 35-year-old American national and took him to the station for interrogation.
The man produced a valid visa and ID showing that he worked as an English teacher in Chonburi. When asked about the medicine found in the box, the man did not reveal its purpose.
Police sent the man to Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry for a mental illness assessment.
