An army private has been arrested in Samut Prakan after an intense standoff with police that lasted just over an hour.
The man, aged 37, is a private in the Military Police Division and surrendered to police after negotiating from a car in which he locked himself after the incident.
The shooting occurred at a house in Sub Yeun Village in Samut Prakan’s Meuang District and resulted in the death of one person.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the shooter had killed his father-in-law with the motive assumed to be because of a personal conflict.
After the police were alerted to the sounds of multiple gunshots by local residents, they quickly arrived on the scene and blockaded the area.
A negotiator spoke with the suspect and eventually convinced him to give himself up.
This is the second shooting incident in Samut Prakan over the last couple of days after a monk shot a man inside a temple.
