A 14-year-old boy sustained fatal injuries after the turbine of a taxi boat struck him in Bangkok’s Saen Saeb Canal.
On Friday, June 12th, the teenager jumped into the canal from a bridge. His family told officials that he usually dives into the water from the same bridge with his friends.
However, on this occasion, he mistimed his jump and entered the water just as a taxi boat was passing under the bridge.
As he swam to the surface, he came into contact with the boat’s turbine and suffered multiple injuries that proved to be fatal.
Local police at Nang Lerng Police Station were alerted about the incident and were joined by divers from Ruam Katanyu Foundation at the scene.
It took around 20 minutes for the diving team to recover the boy’s body from the bottom of the canal.
The 14-year-old had been studying at a school in the Suan Jitlada subdistrict and was starting Matthayom 2 this term.
Representatives from the company that owns the boat, Krob Krua Khon Song (2002) Co. Ltd offered 20,000 baht to the teenager’s family to cover funeral expenses.
No charges have been filed yet, but police are questioning witnesses from the scene to gather more information.
