The police chief of Ubon Ratchathani has been transferred after he failed to comply with screening procedures at the provincial airport after his flight landed.
The chief, Pol Maj Gen Ronnakorn Rithirong, has been moved to perform temporary duties in Korat under the direction of the regional police commissioner.
The incident occurred when the police chief was returning to Ubon Ratchathani airport from Bangkok and allegedly refused to undergo the compulsory health screening while loudly berating the officials who were trying to do their jobs.
After the incident, the police chief was immediately moved to Korat so that an investigation could take place without his interference.
The investigation, which is now underway, will take into account information from witnesses at the airport and gather other video evidence to ensure justice is served.
If found guilty, the chief will be punished with violating the emergency decree and may be stripped of his title.
