Serious doubt has been cast over the Thai Government’s reporting of official coronavirus cases after they announced on three new infections today amid reports of 40 new coronavirus cases being discovered in the southern province of Yala.
The spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, Taweesilp Visanuyothin, said that “double testing” is taking place in Yala to confirm initial results.
However, double testing is not a practice that has been used since the outbreak of the pandemic, with initial positive tests proving enough to verify that some have the virus.
The official announcement of three new infections and no new deaths represents the lowest figures released since early March.
It brings the official total number of cases up to 2,969, while the number of covid-19 related deaths remains at 54.
According to government figures, only 176 people are still receiving treatment in hospital with 2,739 people declared as recovered from the infection.
