Thai Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, has signed an order to close Thailand’s borders for new arrivals between April 2nd and April 15th due to the continuing rise of coronavirus cases.
The announcement was made today, Thursday, April 2nd, by Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration.
The full details of the order are yet to be released, however, it seems that some arrivals will be allowed. Prayut said:
“The spread of Covid-19 must be stopped. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will give more details on the directive. However, people who already have permission and who need to enter Thailand are exempted but there will be a strict process via the embassy.”
The announcement follows a series of other measures being taken around the country to prevent the spread of coronavirus including closing stores in Bangkok between midnight and 5 am, and sanitizing currency.
