There were shocking scenes at a temporary immigration office on Koh Phangan this morning as hundreds of foreigners and tourists turned up to extend their stay in Thailand.
Koh Phangan, a popular tourist island, had previously announced the closure of all hotels on the island sending tourists into a panic about ensuring they could extend their visas and remain on the island.
The order stated that any hotels which have existing guests would be allowed to stay open until their checkout time, but they could not accept new guests.
Due to these regulations and in an attempt to stop people traveling to Surat Thani Province Immigration offices, a temporary immigration office was set up on the island of Koh Phangan.
However, hundreds of people turned up causing mayhem as they attempted to pay their overstay fines and extend their visas.
Little to no social distancing was practiced as people queued up close together with some people in the crowd not wearing a mask.
The dangerous situation was eventually put to a stop when officers told people to go home and come back tomorrow according to Twitter user Richard Barrow.
Scenes like these will surely put pressure on the Thai Government to put new visa measures into place as soon as possible.
