There was only one new reported case of coronavirus in Thailand today and no new deaths, keeping the figures low following the first day of no new cases yesterday.
The single reported case was found in Chiang Mai where a man who had recently returned from Phuket tested positive after a volunteer brought him for a covid-19 test.
The patient displayed no symptoms of coronavirus but was tested by local volunteers because he had recently come from a high-risk area of the country.
The spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin, praised the active testing in Chiang Mai, saying:
“The patient came from an at-risk area, had no symptoms, and is of working age. We would have not known about his infection without the efficiency of the village-based health volunteers who deserve the credit,”
He also urged anyone who has left Phuket since the lockdown there ended to go and get tested for coronavirus even if they are not displaying any symptoms.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Thailand has no risen to 3,018 with Bangkok and Phuket the most affected provinces.
There were also six more patients discharged from hospitals over the past 24 hours, raising the number of recoveries to 2,850.
