
Today is the first day in weeks that people in Thailand can buy alcohol after the ban on sales was officially lifted leading to incredible scenes at supermarkets around the country.
The nationwide prohibition was originally extended until the end of May before a dramatic reversal saw the government allow sales of alcohol for “takeaway only” starting from today.
People flocked to their nearest shops to stock up on alcoholic beverages in case another government u-turn happens and the alcohol ban is reinstated.
One province has already decided to extend the ban on alcohol sales. The Governor of Phitsanulok today signed an order extending the alcohol sales ban in the province until May 31st.
Other provinces may follow suit after images and videos of people clearing the shelves of supermarkets have gone viral.
