There was one new coronavirus case reported by the government today, taking the total number of infections up to 3,082. No new deaths were reported, keeping the death toll at 57.
The single case was a 43-year-old Thai woman who had recently returned from Russia and was staying in a state quarantine facility. She displayed no symptoms.
It has now been a week since Thailand reported a locally-contracted case of coronavirus, leading to some people lowering their guards when it comes to preventative measures to stop the spread of covid-19.
Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin, the spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, warned that this was a critical time as more businesses reopen. He said:
“This period is the turning point after more easing of the lockdown. Some Thais have started not to wear masks and that was a risk.”
A recent poll conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration showed that six percent of those surveyed had lowered their guard including not wearing face masks and not practicing social distancing.
Meanwhile, a further two patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the total number of recoveries up to 2,965. 60 people remain in hospitals.
