The latest official coronavirus figures show a drop of 50% in new covid-19 cases. Today, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration announced 51 new cases compared to 102 new cases yesterday.
The total confirmed cases now stand at 2,220 across Thailand with almost half of the cases present in Bangkok (1,051). There are 135 virus cases in Phuket, 103 in Samut Prakan, 66 in Chonburi, 54 in Yala, 37 in Chiang Mai and Songkhla, and 28 in Pathum Thani.
There were also three new deaths announced today, bringing the total number of deaths up to 26.
The three deceased were all living in Bangkok – a 28-year-old Thai man, a 51-year old Thai man, and a 59-year-old Thai woman.
Despite the significant reduction in new cases, Dr. Taweesin of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration warned that people should still stay at home as much as possible.
He said many covid-19 cases are still being investigated and could be confirmed at a later date, somewhat skewing the figures.
Of the 51 new cases reported today, 22 people were known to be in contact with previous coronavirus patients, 13 are health workers, three attended religious ceremonies, three worked in crowded areas, one recently returned to Thailand, one is a foreign visitor, and one came into contact with arrivals from overseas.
Seven of the new cases remain under investigation.
