There were three new coronavirus cases announced in Thailand today, taking the total number of cases up to 3,040. No new deaths were reported.
Of the three new cases, one was an Italian man in Phuket who had recently returned from Shanghai. He had been staying in the Talang district since mid-March.
The man had been planning to return to China and requested a private covid-19 test at a private hospital along with his two children. While his children returned negative results, the man tested positive for coronavirus.
He was asymptomatic, but had a history of visiting crowded areas.
The other two cases were both Thai nationals who had recently returned from abroad and were being kept in state quarantine.
The first was a male student who had come back to Thailand on a repatriation flight from Egypt on May 8th and had become ill with diarrhea and a cough. He initially tested negative, but a second test showed he had the virus.
The second was a female spa worker who had recently returned on a repatriation flight from India on May 17th. She also had a cough along with a fever and a headache. She tested positive on May 21st.
A further six patients have been released from hospitals over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries up to 2,916.
Only 68 patients are still receiving treatment for the virus.
