Thailand has reported five new coronavirus cases today, taking the total number of covid-19 infections to 3,009. There were no additional deaths announced, meaning the death toll remains at 56.
However, today’s figures do not include four additional virus cases that were discovered in Phuket. The cases on the southern island were reported too late to be included in Sunday’s figures, but they will be added to Monday’s coronavirus numbers.
The cases in Phuket include two people from Muang district and one each from Kathu and Thalang districts. All are currently under investigation.
From today’s five announced cases, two had been in contact with known covid-19 patients while three had recently returned from traveling abroad.
A further seven people have recovered from the virus, increasing the total number of recoveries to 2,794, or a 92.85 percent recovery rate.
With new infections remaining in single digits, the Thai Government is moving to allow some shopping malls and businesses to reopen on May 17th with a trial run for one shopping center happening next Thursday and Friday.
However, inter-provincial travel is allowed only if absolutely necessary and the night curfew will remain in place until at least the end of the month.
