As people begin to venture outside again following the easing of restrictions from covid-19 lockdown measures, the importance of continuing to practice good hygiene and wear face masks cannot be underestimated.
With Thailand reporting no new covid-19 cases yesterday, some people have started to relax and forget about the measures that are still in place.
This was evident on the southern island of Koh Tao in Surat Thani province, where authorities set up a checkpoint at the junction near Koh Tao pier and discovered many people not wearing face masks.
The Deputy District Chief, along with police and local officers, decided to punish both locals and tourists who were caught without a face mask by making them do exercise in public.
Everyone who was caught was told to do 20 pushups and 20 jumping jacks to the amusement of onlookers.
People enjoyed watching the show and when those penalized were finished with the punishment, officials handed them a face mask and informed them of the importance to continue practicing preventative measures to stop the spread of covid-19.
