Doctors in Thailand have been warned to check for signs of smell blindness and loss of taste as early symptoms of covid-19 by the Royal College of Otolaryngologists-Head and Neck Surgeons of Thailand.
An announcement made the Royal College informed medical personnel that as many as two-thirds of people who have suffered from coronavirus experience these specific symptoms.
In addition, a loss of smell and/or taste is more prevalent in people who are suffering from mild symptoms of the infection and as such should be carefully monitored.
The Royal College has made a recommendation that anyone who is experiencing these symptoms should be tested for covid-19 and not treated with oral steroids.
Many people assume these symptoms are related to common conditions such as allergies, however, if anyone experiences a sudden loss of taste and/or smell they should self-isolate and get tested as soon as possible.
