For the first time since January, Bangkok hasn’t reported any new coronavirus cases. Meanwhile, the official figure of nine new covid-19 infections is the lowest in Thailand since March 14th.
The number of new cases announced today by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration is six fewer than yesterday’s number of 15, however, as testing is limited the true number of infections is likely to be much higher.
Of the new cases, three are connected to previous coronavirus infections, two are arrivals from overseas who were already in quarantine, and the remaining four are from the southern province of Yala.
There was also one new death announced today, that of a 64-year-old Thai woman. The spokesperson for the Center, Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin said:
“The death case told us that the situation remains serious.”
Despite a drop in cases over recent days, the Thai Government has announced that it will extend the emergency decree until the end of May.
