There have been more than 18,600 night curfew violations across Thailand since the order came into effect on April 3rd according to the Office of Judiciary.
The figures show that 17,315 Thai citizens and 1,068 foreigners have been stopped and questioned for being outside of their homes during the 10 pm to 4 am curfew.
The majority of violators have been charged and referred to the courts, facing a fine of up to 40,000 baht or time in prison.
However, there has been some confusion among certain curfew violators who believe they have been arrested despite being granted permission to travel during curfew hours such as the case of 15 workers where it was discovered that letters had been torn up by police.
Despite the high number of violations, curfew checkpoints are being reduced in multiple provinces including Bangkok and Korat.
